Who We Are:
Liberate the South Side is a group of concerned South Side and South Suburban residents, who are working together to hold Wall Street accountable to the needs of our communities. The group’s Home Liberation Project aims to re-occupy vacant, foreclosed homes.
Goals of Liberate the South Side’s Home Liberation Project
- House displaced families.
- Reoccupy a vacant building that would otherwise contribute to community blight and attract crime.
- Create a safe community space in which neighbor can talk about the impact of the economic crises on the area, organize teach-ins on issues of economic and racial justice, host organizing trainings, community meals, etc.
- Draw attention to issues of foreclosure, vacant property, the role of banks in crashing the economy, and the disproportionate impact on communities of color.
